The organizers of the Tour de France cycle race yesterday withdrew their formal invitation to the Valencian Cycling team – once known as Kelme – to participate in this years’ race.
The decision came as one of the team’s directors Ignacio Labarta, has been linked to a huge doping scandal involving other Spanish teams and several medical advisers. The Tour organizers stated that the Valencian Team will not be replaced and no other invitations will be issued, meaning that, in effect, some 21 teams and 189 cyclists will be present in Strasburg when the race begins on July 1.
