A Nice Present
Following the revelations yesterday that Alicante would be the start point of the 2008 Volvo Ocean Race, Francisco Camps, the President of the Valencian Community stated that he was hoping to set up an administrative committee for the event in much the same way as has been set up for the Americas Cup in Valencia.
This would involve the Valencian Government, the Diputacion of Alicante, Alicante Town Hall and ‘hopefully the Government in Madrid. Alicante Mayor Luis Diaz Alperi expressed his delight at the selection of ‘his’ City for the event, which is expected to bring a total of sixty million Euros to Alicante as a direct result of its selection for being the start point of what has been termed as the toughest race in the world.
